The Grand Canyon is more than a great chasm carved over millennia through the rocks of the Colorado Plateau. It is more than an awe-inspiring view. It is more than a pleasuring ground for those that explore the roads, hike the trails, or float the currents of the turbulent Colorado River. This canyon is a gift that transcends what we experience. Its beauty and size humbles us. Its timelessness provokes a comparison to our short existence. In its vast spaces we may find solace from our hectic lives.

   

500 Miles of Shoreline!

Smith Mountain Lake

Located in the heartland of the Appalachian Blue Ridge Mountains is Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. It's surreal mountain backdrops, and five hundred miles of shoreline made Smith Mountain Lake the ideal film location for the motion picture, "What About Bob". Now the imaginary town from the hit television show, "Andy of Mayberry, RFD" is being replicated at the lake. The lake offers dozens of resorts, marinas and golf courses along with a lake life style, home to the fifty plus pound fish, and low taxes that hard to beat.

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, it is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. Preserved within Yellowstone National Park are Old Faithful and a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Not to mention the world famous Yellowstone Grand Lodge is located right there where you can enjoys dining or just catching your breath.

Crater Lake has inspired people for hundreds of years. No place else on earth combines a deep, pure lake, so blue in color; sheer surrounding cliffs, almost two thousand feet high; two picturesque islands; and a violent volcanic past. It is a place of immeasurable beauty, and an outstanding outdoor laboratory and classroom. Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon on the crest of the Cascade Mountain range, 100 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. It lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, created when the 12,000 foot high Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption.

Hawaii contains eight national parks. The islands are most famous for their volcanoes, beautiful landscapes and complex ecosystems which offer unusual hiking and camping opportunities. Other parks were established to preserve native activities, history and culture from ancient ritual sites to a Hansen's disease colony. Hawaii is also home to a national memorial designed to encourage quiet contemplation, and to appeal to our memory and sense of sacrifice after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Alaska is expansive and diverse. Its magnitude is difficult to comprehend, but its rewards are many and apparent. For climate and topography, "the Great Land" constitutes a virtual subcontinent. Seventeen National Park System areas protect representative natural, cultural, and historic features of this immense landscape. Ten were created by the 1980 Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.
